Iranian filmmaker plans to make Avini biopic

TEHRAN, April 6 (MNA) -- Iranian documentarian Abbas Saleh-Madreseii plans to make a documentary in near future on the life of martyr Morteza Avini, the writer and documentarian who chronicled the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

He told IRNA that he has read all of Avini’s books and watched all his films for the second time to reach a new perspective for producing his documentary on Avini. He plans to begin work after receiving official permissions.

“I had several meetings with Avini when he was editor-in-chief of Sureh Magazine at Tehran’s Art Bureau. He was always friendly regardless of bureaucratic formalities. After his martyrdom, all of my memories turned into eternal ones for me,” he said.

“I do not agree with a one-dimension look at a person. I believe that past events are crucial in appraising a person’s character and intend to consider Avini’s life ahead of his reputation,” he said.

Although the film will be based purely on fact, the documentary should not offend anyone, he announced.

Avini was martyred by a landmine in 1993 during his last trip to the former Iran-Iraq war zone in southwestern Iran while making a documentary about soldiers who were still listed as missing in action.

He became famous for “The Narration of Triumph” and was considered a “master of martyred writers” by his colleagues and war veterans due to the fervent narrations he wrote for his documentaries.

He also directed the 10-part series “A City in the Sky,” “With Kheibar Battalion,” “Spell or Miracle” and several other films. He published many written works, all of which are held in high esteem throughout Iran.
